PONY CLUB

Withersfield Hall School of Equitation is an official Pony Club Centre where children can learn about horses and pony care as well as improving their riding, all whilst working towards a variety of badges and achievements.

The Pony Club is approximately an hour of training every Saturday between 12 and 1:30. Each training session costs £5 and in it they will be learning and practising towards their achievement badges. We run the club in response to the children’s desire to learn more about all aspects of equitation and stable management. The children learn a wide range of skills like equine first-aid, bandaging, horse breeds, plaiting, saddlery, road safety, anatomy and grooming. Once the children feel confident they take their badge exam the following Saturday.

The children have to purchase a year’s membership to the international youth organisation The Pony Club in order to participate in the training. This costs £20 and the children receive a joining pack and are covered by the pony clubs third party public liability insurance.

Here are some of the exams the children have taken so far:

HANDLING & GROOMING

To be able to run up a pony in hand and to tie it up safely. To be able to identify and use all grooming utensils correctly.

POINTS OF THE HORSE

To know the points of the horse, colours and markings.

RIDING AND ROAD SAFETY

To make children aware of the hazards and dangers of riding on the road and promote safety, courtesy and understanding of riding in traffic; through the green cross and highway codes along with signs, signals and observations from the rider.

To join ask your instructor for the centre membership application form!
